B.A. Women’s and Gender Studies, History, and English (Summa Cum Laude, 2016), West Virginia University
Taylor York received a B.A. in Women’s and Gender Studies, History, and English from West Virginia University (2016) and a M.A. in Women’s Studies from the University of Maryland (2019). Taylor’s research interests include sound studies, popular music studies, queer and trans studies, fandom studies, digital studies, and fat studies. Taylor intends to use their graduate studies to do research on the transformative potential at the intersections of sound studies, queer and trans studies, and digital humanities. Previously they have analyzed sound alongside queer subjectivities and temporality—exploring how an erotic soundscape lends to a kind of affective terrain and hauntology. They are currently working on a Twitter bot and an interactive audio program to explore incomprehensibility, queerness, and sound.
