WGSS to host first Social Justice Hangout of the semester, taking part in the UMD Palestine Teach-in Series

The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is happy to announce the first Social Justice Hangout of the Spring semester. We will be screening the documentary film 1948: Creation & Catastrophe on Wednesday, February 7th at 5 pm in SQH 1101.

In keeping with the mission of the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Social Justice Hangouts bring together students all over campus to learn about and discuss prominent social justice issues. It's never too late to make new friends and learn something new.

1948 tells the story of the partition of Palestine and the creation of Israel through accounts of Israeli and Palestinian people who lived through the period. The documentary includes interviews with veterans, refugees, survivors, and historians. The screening will be followed by a discussion and Q+A with filmmakers Andy Trimlett and Ahlam Muhtaseb.
