September 05, 2025 The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Updated for Fall 2025: Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Updates for the Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies take effect in Fall of 2025

Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies have gone through some changes and updates are now available online.

The Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies trains students in feminist critical analysis of social, cultural, and historical formations of gender and sexuality, both within the U.S. and globally. Students explore diverse perspectives through lenses such as health and disability studies, science and technology studies, digital studies, cultural, literary, and visual analysis, sexuality studies, and historical analysis of  social and political movements for collective liberation. This program equips students with analytical tools to understand complex power relations and prepares them for diverse career paths, including higher education, local and national government, law, marketing and communications, non-profit organizations, medicine, and scientific research.

For more information about the major in WGSS and to see the specific changes made to the requirements, visit the brand-new Bachelor of Arts in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies page. Please direct all questions to wgss@umd.edu.

Changes to the major will automatically impact students matriculating into the major in Fall 2025 or later while those students who have already declared may opt to complete their degree under the new requirements.
