Join WGSS on March 13 for Harriet Tubman, National Memory, and the Making of Black Feminist Icon with prominent Harriet Tubman scholar Dr. Janell Hobson

The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is thrilled to announce that Janell Hobson will be joining us for a lecture on March 13, 2024 from 4:00 - 5:15 pm in SQH 3105 to discuss the legacy and representation of the the department's namesake. 

In this talk, Janell Hobson examines popular representations of Harriet Tubman and how she has come to shape our national conversations about American history, including the ways in which she fits into Black feminist iconicity. From militant reclamations to militaristic and patriotic commemorations, who gets to claim Harriet Tubman’s legacy, and why?
