WGSS welcomes AAUW Fellow Agnes Namaganda.

Agnes Namaganda is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is a recipient of the American Association of University Women International postdoc fellowship. Dr. Namaganda got her PhD in 2021 from Makerere University, Uganda. For her doctorate, she assessed the effectiveness of university anti sexual harassment policies within the context of the asymmetrical power relationships that are synonymous with higher education institutions. She has previously held a junior research fellowship at the Stiftung University of Hildesheim, Germany. Prior to embarking on her postdoc, she was a research associate at the School of Women and Gender Studies, Makerere University. Her research interests include sexual violence, marginalised identities, the inequalities around gender and sexuality and the gendered implications of policies. She also has a keen interest in intersectionalities and how they shape unique experiences.

Dr. Namaganda is passionate about researcher-practitioner partnerships especially those that encourage the translation of research into practice. She has in the past partnered with practitioners and policymakers on programs geared towards preventing sexual violence. Her postdoc research project explores sexual violence against urban refugee women and girls in light of the pandemic. The study will explore vulnerabilities, lived experiences and responses to sexual violence.
