The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is excited to announce our Harriet Tubman Day Celebration and share some resources about other events and projects that are underway.

The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park is excited to be announcing our second annual Harriet Tubman Day Celebration “Reclaiming Histories | Creating Futures" on March 10th. We are also pleased to share some of the other exciting resources that have been compiled and events that have been planned for Harriet Tubman's Bicentennial.

Ms. Magazine has launched the Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Project, culminating on March 10th, which "pays tribute to this feminist icon with a special commemorative issue through Ms. online and in print." Tubman 200: Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Project Explores the Meaning of Freedom Through One Extraordinary Life

The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway is a self-guided driving tour that winds for 125 miles through the beautiful landscapes and waterscapes of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, then continues for 98 miles through Delaware before ending in Philadelphia. The Tubman Byway recounts the life story of Harriet Tubman - freedom seeker, Underground Railroad conductor, abolitionist, suffragist, human rights activist, and one of Maryland’s most famous daughters. It preserves and interprets the places where Harriet Tubman was born, lived, labored, and where she fled from. 

The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center will launch Tubman 200 Launch at the Harriet Tubman Visitor Center March 12-13, 2022 in Church Creek, Maryland. Stop #13 on the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway. The weekend celebration includes hearing from some of their most powerful speakers and bringing back some of their most popular programs since opening five years ago. Visitors will see the talented Ms. Millicent Sparks perform as Harriet Tubman. They will hear from Tubman biographer Dr. Kate Clifford Larson, family members, archaeologists, and the architect responsible for the design concept “The View North.” There will be an immersive walk, family friendly programming, and an opportunity to view real artifacts recovered from the homesite of Ben Ross. 4068 Golden Hill Rd., Church Creek, Maryland 21622 (410-221-2290
